BSNL To Receive Rs. 2000 Crore If ADC Is Removed

So much for open competition: Public sector telco BSNL may get a Rs. 2000 crore bounty in case the Acess Deficit Charge (ADC) levied by the government is removed. The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has recommended that the amount be withdrawn from the burgeoning Universal Service Obligation Fund. In the meantime, Bharti Airtel has said that they’ll pass on the amount to consumers. The GSM Association – the COAI – has said that bill amounts will down only marginally, since the ADC is only 0.75 percent of revenue. Apparently, the withdrawal of the fund is expected to hamper BSNLs rural expansion…and but if you look at the positive side of things, BSNL now has an excuse for not following through with their plans. More at BS.
