The Guild Seeks Production Partner


The Guild is getting lauded left, right and center these days. It’s up for a Yahoo Video Award and a YouTube Video Award, both of which are finalizing voting this week. It won the best original online production award at the South by Southwest Film Festival last week. And creator and star Felicia Day is getting coronated by all our online video news brethren.

We should confess we’re also long-time fans of the quirky, character-driven show, which chronicles the relationships amongst a fictional team of online fantasy gamers. See our profile of it from October.

Despite all this praise and all these honors, when we spoke with Day (and co-star Sandeep Parikh) at SXSW, she said the show is still piecing itself together on $5, $20 and the occasional $100 donation. And while the professional actress (best known for her work on Buffy the Vampire Slayer) would be happy to just keep doing what she’s doing online, she said she’d really like to bring on a production partner or a product sponsor who can help make the show pay without sacrificing its credibility.

Wow. The interviewer was really annoying, and cut off Felicia Day and Zaboo 100 times… but… I LOVE THE GUILD. I’m so glad they got picked up by xbox live.

Not that this should come as a surprise, but I’m sure the other nominees for these awards are actively seeking production partners as well. (I should know; I produce one of them…)

Cheers to The Guild for tapping the ‘net zeitgeist, and let’s hope these awards shed some light on the wide variety of quality serialized content available online. Onward and upward…

Wow, an online series looking for partnerships and sponsors? I’ve never heard of such a thing. I thought all online content was just FREE ;)
