Consumers are getting mobile content from a variety of sources. On one hand, they are more likely to watch a video from YouTube than stream it over the carrier’s own service, but on the other hand, they are more than twice as likely to buy a ringtone from the carrier than from any other source. The report released today corresponds with a trend by carriers to open up their networks, and become more accepting of outside applications and devices. However, it appears whether the carriers allow it or not, it is already happening today.
In the report, released today by ABI Research, consumers said they are getting a mix of content from the carrier, the Web and their personal collections.
