After letting fans pay what they want for its last album, Radiohead is now letting fans make what they want for the band’s next video. The alt+music gods have joined forces with independent animation site Aniboom for a contest that will earn one lucky winner $10,000 to produce an music video for the group.
Starting today, hopefuls can submit storyboards for the song they want to animate. And in a nice twist, people can choose to submit solo or ask Aniboom to match them up with someone whose talents complement their own. Next, a panel selects the 10 semi-finalists who are given $1,000 to produce a one-minute version of their pitch. Radiohead will pick the winner and the creators will get $10,000 to produce the full version of the video.
Radiohead isn’t the first band to have its fans create a music video. Heck, Madonna’s “True Blue” contest invited her faithful to make videos back in the mid-80s. But it is fitting that the group is partnering with Aniboom, an independent animation studio not tied to one of the major media companies.
