Mario Gabelli, a major shareholder of embattled newspaper publisher Media General (NYSE: MEG) has announced plans to hold a forum for both the company and the activist shareholders going after it. Gabelli, head of his firm GAMCO investments, will moderate a discussion on April 1 between representatives of Harbinger and the company, with various institutional shareholders in attendance. MEG will be represented by CEO Marshall Morton, while Joseph Cleverdon will represent the activists. So far, Gabelli has remained neutral in this fight. Last week, Harbinger filed the proxy for its proposed slate, criticizing the insular board, as well as various digital misadventures. Full detail’s in Gabelli’s announcement.
