Clearwire CEO Ben Wolff said in a conference call this morning said in a conference call this morning, that it was still in regular talks with Sprint (NYSE: S) to revive a joint venture agreement the two companies abandoned last year. Wolff said they are discussing how to achieve a joint venture, calling the previous letter of intent “complicated and cumbersome” and one that didn’t fulfill the full potential opportunity between the two companies.
The talks have been delayed as Sprint Nextel has gone through a restructuring, including the appointment of Dan Hesse to the position of CEO, but Wolff said he believes Sprint is done with most of the hard work, and is now “fully focused” on a 4G opportunity. He said “significant progress is being made on various fronts,” and to “look forward to something soon.”
If you remember, during Sprint’s conference call last week, Hesse confirmed that a partnership of some kind may still be in the works.
