Veteran sports execs Doug Perlman and Steve Solomon, entrepreneur Bryan McBride and private equity exec Paul Levy are opening up shop as Accrue Sports and Entertainment Ventures, LLC, a combo investment/operating/consulting firm with a focus on “unique opportunities arising from the convergence of sports with the media, entertainment and technology sectors.” Perlman, Solomon and McBride all are former NHL execs. The NY-based firm has raised funds for investment but is being vague about the amount. Accrue plans to invest in “next-generation sports-related companies, ranging from professional to youth levels, which touch the media, entertainment and technology sectors.”
McBride, CEO, advised Sports Technologies Inc. and managed the sales of its FanNation to SI. He also led an investment in Football Scouts, Inc., which was sold to ESPN (NYSE: DIS), and founded Vision Sports and Entertainment Partners, which was sold to The Action Network. Solomon, president and COO, has had his own consulting firm since 2001; prior to that he was a long-time ABC exec, NHL EVP and COO, and president of the sports division of Univision. Perlman, president of Accrue Sports and Entertainment Advisors, most recently was president of IMG Media, NA; prior to that, he oversaw the NHL’s digital operations and the launch of the NHL Network as EVP-media. Levy most recently was a VP with PE firm Main Street Resources. Release.
