Updated: NYTCo Activists To Disclose Bigger Stake: Report; Stake Now At 19.03 Percent

The activists seeking changes at NYTCo (NYSE: NYT) will disclose another round of share purchases later today, according to the WSJ. As of their last filing, Harbinger and its partners said they controlled 15.6 percent of the company’s publicly traded shares. The new purchases would put them near parity with the Sulzberger family, which owns 19 percent of the publicly traded shares. Of course, the Sulzbergers own 88 percent of NYTCo super-shares, giving them a lock on the company’s board. Since late December, the investor group has spent more than $400 million on its efforts, which includes its goal of placing four of its own nominees on the company’s board.

Update: Just as reported, the group says in a fresh filing that it now owns 27.22 million NYTCo shares, or 19.03 percent of the company. As seen here, the group bought several million more on Thursday and Friday at prices ranging from $20.8 to around $18.9 per share.
