- Games prediction: Ad-funded mobile games will be worth £600,000 this year and £41 million by 2012 in the UK, research for the Mobile Entertainment Forum (MEF) says. The forum reckons ad-funded mobile can grow the games sector by 15 percent, saying targeted, location based and real-time content features could boost the market significantly.
– Orange-Voda sharing: The Guardian reports that Orange and Vodafone (NYSE: VOD) have agreed to place some of their transmitters on the same sites cutting the masts required by several thousand. In December, T-Mobile and 3 agreed to share not only the sites of their masts. O2 is the only British operator now without a network sharing deal.
– Ofcom pay-TV rules: Ofcom announced today stricter rules for TV broadcasters governing premium-rate participation TV. Broadcasters are now responsible for all communications with viewers, and must obtain third-party verification of all systems used in competitions and voting. Ofcom plans to conduct surprise spot-checks to ensure the new licensing rules are being implemented (release).
– Dorling Kindersley: Education publisher DK has signed an agreement with Mobifusion, a global developer and publisher of mobile applications and technologies, to distribute its branded mobile content products to consumers, reports the Bookseller. Mobifusion will take content from DK’s health, reference, fitness and lifestyle, food and drink and travel titles and make them available to mobile users through its deals with handset manufacturers and network operators.
