It isn’t everyday you see a showdown between a new Tablet PC and the predecessor it replaced, but you can see such a smackdown today. Gordon Cahill at the TabletPCReview now owns both the HP tx1000 and tx2000; he shares his impressions after comparing the two:
"The tx2011 has some really great upgrades and a few lingering annoyances compared to the tx1001. The dual digitizer works great and inking is wonderful. It’s as good as anything I’ve used before. Battery life is still a worry, unless you can upgrade to the 6-cell or 8-cell, and the fingerprint reader is plain annoying."
Bear in mind that Gordon’s location is from Australia, so the product numbering is slightly different than what you might be used to. He notes that the screen on the older model appears much brighter and his picture supports that thought. The tx1000 appears to have a more accurate touch-screen as well, but for some folks, not having an active digitizer is a deal breaker. For the price, I could see the tx2000 as a nice starter Tablet PC… heck, the tx1000 fits that bill too, but inking with touch might turn some people off from the platform as a whole.
