Games behemoth Electronic Arts (NSDQ: ERTS) is going through a slew of changes, and one of the involved developing online ad-supported games, the first of which was launched last month. Now Gametap reports that a somewhat stealth unit within EA called EA Blueprint is working with smaller developers to launch games within social networks such as Facebook, and collaborating with talent agency CAA on it.
The new unit, housed in its Redwood Shores HQs since last Sept., will provide independent developers with strategic funding and project management. The unit is being run by former EA Los Angeles GM Neil Young and that studio’s director of artist and repertoire Alan Yu, the story says.
Its first test games–Facebook Smarty Pants–is a re-purposed version of last year’s Wii trivia title Smarty Pants, where it is working social apps dev house Context Optional.
