Yahoo’s (NSDQ: YHOO) financial “video-centric blog” Tech Ticker — tag line “I Iove the smell of profits in the morning” — is up and quasi-running, nearly two months after some speculated it would go live. There’s an intro from Diane Galligan, who’s heading the edit team, but no video running just yet; we expect a full launch Monday. (To be fair. Yahoo didn’t announce an official launch date.)
Here’s how Galligan describes it: “We’re a small startup within Yahoo! Finance, the gold standard among financial Web sites. We are Yahoo! Finance boosters (we rock!), but that won’t translate into favoritism when it comes to covering Yahoo! as a company or an investment. From Jerry Yang on down, executives here have given us not only the freedom, but the mandate, to call it as we see it.”
The headline correspondents are Sarah Lacy, BusinessWeek, from Silicon Valley and Aaron Task, who was at TheStreet.com (NSDQ: TSCM) for a decade, from New York. Henry Blodget, described as “Henry Blodget 2.0″ and CEO of Silicon Alley Insider, is a featured contributor in NYC while author and former analyst Andy Kessler fills the same role from SV.
This is where writing about this gets a little tricky for us: Yahoo Finance is one of our syndicators and we’re slated to be a Tech Ticker content partner (we’re included in the intro and blogroll…other content partners include AllThingsD, Fox Business News and CNBC — yes, together for the first time). That said, we stumbled on the site tonight via the new tab on Yahoo Finance. We’re intrigued to see where they go as it moves from idea to execution — especially given that Yahoo is in one of the leading players in the biggest tech story around right now.
