Taiwanese smartphone maker HTC, which made its fortune selling Windows Mobile devices, has announced that it has sold 2 million Touch handsets, the touch-screen iPhone-resembling Windows Mobile-running device developed to compete with the iPhone. Of course, HTC has three devices in its Touch family, versus Apple’s (NSDQ: AAPL) single iPhone model. Still, it’s a respectable figure from a company which isn’t a top-five handset manufacturer and indicates the importance of a variety of handsets in maximising sales. Taking a tip from Apple certainly helped the company, with handset sales for 2007 increasing about 12 percent compared to 2006 to 11.8 million, and revenue growing by 12 percent as well.
