The “open” mantra is gaining some ground in U.S., as AT&T (NYSE: T) becomes the first major network to offer a SIM-only service, without a handset: through its online store, users can get a SIM for $5 ($10, minus a $5 online discount), and then use it in any unlocked GSM-handset and AT&T locked cellphones.
