Look out! The mobile space and home entertainment market worlds are starting to collide… in a good way, though. Nokia just became the first company to get a mobile handset DLNA-certified as Mobile Digital Media Server:
“With up to eight gigabytes of built-in memory, the Nokia N95 8GB can hold a vast selection of your favorite media content, like those ski vacation photos and your music collection. You can share these with your friends and family on a DLNA Certified home entertainment system and enjoy your photos on a full-sized TV screen or jam to those tunes on your home stereo system. All you need to do is share the content wirelessly from your Nokia N95 8GB.”
DLNA is meant to make it easier to move, share and enjoy your digital content between DLNA-certified consumer electronics regardless of device manufacturer. I wouldn’t exactly call it a standard, but more of a set of defined guidelines for certification. I anticipate we’ll be hearing about more DLNA certified handsets this year as en emerging trend…
