MacBook Pro woes- a trip to the Genius Bar is in order

Mad_computerWhile I was screwing around in the hospital early this week my MacBook Pro was deciding it didn’t want to work anymore.  Maybe I have worked it too hard in the past but for whatever reason it has given up on me.  The first symptom was that it was hung up totally when I got back home a couple of days ago and wouldn’t reboot.  It just gave me a "Your MacBook Pro needs to be restarted" dialog if it booted at all.  Most of the time it just gave me an ominous 3 beep sequence which research tells me is bad RAM.  After spending far too much time trying to get it to work I let it sit for 24 hours to "rest".  That got me to a point where it would actually boot up normally, but then it will quickly start hanging up running programs and eventually I’ll get the dialog mentioned above.  The really bad news is that I made the mistake of hooking up my iPod Touch to it during one of the extended "it’s working OK" periods and while iTunes was updating the firmware prior to installing the new Touch software update the MBP hung up.  I have updated firmware on a lot of devices over the years and the one cardinal rule is to not let anything whatsoever interfere with that process.  Any interruption results in a brick and that’s what my Touch is now.

Tomorrow I have a scheduled appointment at the Genius Bar, my very first, to let them have a look at the MBP.  The iPod Touch is coming with us too as it will likely need to be replaced.  What do you think, should I live blog it?  Think they’ll get mad at me?  :)
