SF-based BigTent, a startup providing social networking tools to groups, has raised a $5 million first round from Menlo Ventures and Mohr Davidow Ventures, reports PE Hub. The company offers community-based groups, such as ones formed around volunteering or education, get their members organized online. There are a number of white-label social networking firms, although this one is specifically targeting groups that don’t just exist online. CEO Donna Novitsky was previously a partner at Mohr, Davidow.
