German family tree-centric social net Verwandt has scored second-round of an undisclosed amount Hasso Plattner Ventures (HPV) of Potsdam. After initially launching with a look resembling genealogy heavywight Geni, Verwandt attracted 9.5 million profiles and a million trees in its first five months, TechCrunch notes – almost double what Geni did. And, typically of European startups launching in a bigger sibling’s shadow, Verwandt has ploughed ahead with localisations in languages other than English. HPV’s portfolio includes other social web startups Hiogi and Smeet. Verwandt got a first round in the summer from Neuhaus Partners.
