Most surreal moment at CES so far

Kevincespressroom No breaking product news here, but this was too funny to share, plus it’s part of the crazy CES experience and helps to explain what we’re doing on the show floor. No doubt you’ve seen us post product pics with just a line or two of info: those pics are taken and immediately published to the site. I’m talking about practically instant; in fact, we’ve still been at a booth when that booth’s product goes on our site… you should see the look on an exhibitors face when we show them on jkOnTheRun what they’ve just shown us. It’s priceless.

Now that you have that in perspective, maybe you’ll appreciate this little funny.

After my long travel day with delays, James and I immediately went to the Sands to get my badge holder. We had to stop and rest after walking down to the Sands so we hit the press room to kick back for a few. I took the opportunity to call Barb at home and that’s when James posted the my arrival pic.

Here’s where it gets funny and strange. While I’m talking to Barb, I’m looking around the press room only to see a few die-hards reading RSS feeds and typing content. All of a sudden at the table next to me, I see the piicture James just took of me… it was already on Google Reader! The best part is that the person reading their feeds looked at the post, went the next one, paused and went back to my pic. In fact, they kept going forward and coming back, probably because they recognized the setting: it was the very room they were in.

Of course, I had to shout out: "Hey, that’s me on your computer! You’re reading our site in your feeds!" Clearly Barb didn’t appreciate my yellng although she got a kick out of the situation, so I finished my conversation with her and went to the table to introduce myself. Sure enough, part of the hard-working team from Gizmodo was reading their feeds. We all got a kick of out of it… although in hindsight, they probably think we’re nuts. ;)
