Nomadic Team File Sharing – That’s the pitch from NomaDesk, whose 2.1 version is currently free during beta (they promise 60 free days after the beta period before you have to pay as-yet-unannounced fees). You create your team’s NomaDesk online, and then share it with everyone in your team. As far as they’re concerned, the file sharing space appears as simply another drive under Windows – whether they’re online or off. Online, you’re working with files on the server, offline, you’re working with local copies, that are synchronized later.
NomaDesk offers smart delta synchronization, 128-bit encryption, and unlimited storage space. The major drawback for many web workers will be its Windows-only focus. There is some allowance for other operating systems in that you can email documents into the NomaDesk, but to work with them, you’ll need to be on a Microsoft operating system.
Work at Home Inspiration – If you’ve been following our coverage of Connect!: A Guide to a New Way of Working, you’ll want to hop over to Work From Home Momma and read the interview with lead author Anne Zelenka. Anne discusses her own history, offers advice, and looks into the future. Plus, there’s a lot of other nifty content on the site for those of us working at home, mommas or otherwise.
CES Porn – You can always tell when the big Consumer Electronics Show is coming up; new hardware announcements start piling up. This year is no exception, with sexy new offerings including Dell’s ultramodern Crystal Monitor and a laptop from Asus with 1 terabyte of hard drive. It’s a good time to make sure your credit cards are securely locked up.
