Sling announces BlackBerry client and new Slingbox for high-def streaming

If you saw my inbox and read all of the pre-pre-announcements, you’d think that CES started without me already! At the top of my list are two bits of news from Sling Media that’s very exciting to me personally. This is my seventh year of high-definition addiction enjoyment, so I’ll start with the upcoming Slingbox PRO-HD unit. The device is expected in the third quarter of the year (but I’m more than willing to beta test prior to that!) for $399.99 in the U.S. Like my Slingbox PRO, it can accept high-def signals, but it goes at least three steps beyond that. The PRO-HD has a built in digital tuner and it can pipe that content in high-def to another HDTV with a SlingCatcher unit. Even better: when paired with a zippy upload connection, you can sling high-def quality content remotely! I was hot for FiOS in my area before, but this will have me hounding Verizon on a daily basis now. It’s not all about new hardware though: Sling also announced that SlingPlayer Mobile for BlackBerry is coming soon for a price of $29.99, which is right in line with the other mobile clients. James occasionally uses my Slingbox from Houston and he has a BlackBerry. I think it’s time he gets his own unit. Maybe he want’s my PRO when the PRO-HD arrives? Watch for more details and a press release at the Sling site later this morning.
