Ask.com introduced a nice voice-activated system for navigation today by incorporating the speech-recognition technology of Dial Directions. Here’s the skinny: if you hop over to Ask.com Mobile on your web-enabled phone, you’ll see a new “Voice Entry” option next to Directions. Clicking said button initiates an phone call to the Dial Directions service. You’ll have four prompts to jump through reply to and confirm: Destination city/state and street address and the same two parameters for your starting location.Once you’ve spoken the information and completed the call, you’ll receive an SMS message with a hyperlink to a set of turn by turn directions. The implementation looks solid, provided the speech-recognition side works well. I just tested it on my iPhone and had very positive results. The other benefit is that it should work on just about any phone with a browser. Give it a try or check this video demonstration to see if it could be useful for you.
