Blackberry maker Research in Motion (NSDQ: RIMM) reported revenue of $1.67 billion in its Q3, up 100 percent from last year’s $835 million. Net income more than doubled to $370.5 million from $175.2 million a year ago. The company says it shipped 3.9 million Blackberries in the quarter and that its subscriber base swelled to 12 million. Revenue for the coming quarter is expected to be around $1.80-$1.87 billion. While RIM has faced concerns over mounting competition, including the iPhone, these numbers solidly surpassed Wall St. estimates. The stock is trading up over 10 percent after hours.
