Mobile Still Seen As A Casual Gaming Platform: Report

Despite ever-advanced handsets and software, a new report says consumers still perceive mobile phones as casual gaming devices, reports Cellular-News. Parks Associates, the firm behind the report, says that even though 3D, multiplayer and other advances are established in the mobile market, most consumers aren’t yet aware of them, which means casual games will continue to dominate sales. Less than 10 percent of mobile gamers want to play console-centric games on their mobile handset, the report says, while 55 percent want to play card and puzzle games, and nearly a third want word and arcade games. This compares to respondents’ feelings about portable game consoles: on those devices, about a third are interested in sports and action/adventure games, 29 percent want driving/flying games, and 27 percent want first-person shooters.
