Intel pre-CES news: SSD shrinks in size and Lenovo to have a MID?

01425i19817600Just this afternoon, I set up an auto-delete rule for any mail with “CES” in the subject. Trust me, if you were on the press lists, you probably would have done the same by now. On top of the CES buzz in my Inbox, we’re now getting pre-CES news. Apparently I missed the pre-pre-CES announcements.Anyway, today’s news comes from Intel via Gizmodo. Quite a bunch of news, but one bit (no not one-eighth of a byte) that promises a definite impact on mobile devices is Intel’s new SSD. The chip-maker announced their Z-P140 PATA SSD that’s about the size of a one-cent coin. 2- and 4-gig flavors will measure a scant 12 x 18 x 8mm and the device can be expanded up to 16 GB. Read and write speeds are expected at 40 MBps and 30 MBps, respectively. As a follow up to that news, Intel indicated that the Z-P140 will be used in UMPCs and mobile internet devices from BenQ, Asus and… (wait for it…) Lenovo. Hmm… what does IBM Lenovo have up their sleeves? Will we find out at CES or have to wait for a post-pre-CES announcement?(Image: PC Magazine)
