Asus Eee “magic” bedazzles yet another, Michael Gartenberg

3422024404I know I’ve raved about the overall experience and value the Asus Eee PC provides. Can’t say that I’ll likely stop soon because the device is so much fun and useful for a fraction of other mobile computing devices. The value is just that good and while the device isn’t without shortcomings, I can overlook or work around many for the $399 price tag.Seems I’m not the only one having fun with an Eee. I know I’ve mentioned ThoughtFix, tnkgrl and others but today I get to point out Michael Gartenberg. Aside from his analyst role at Jupiter Research, Michael has a keen knack on his own of finding the salient reasons a device or service will or won’t work in a market. After reading his first hands-on impressions of the Eee (both with Linux and XP), I see he’s quite taken with the small notebook as well. Here’s a nice summary of thoughts:

For now, it’s a cool little computer that packs a lot of friendliness and simplicity at an affordable price point. With a little effort, it’s a full featured, super portable Windows XP machine that’s perfect for road warriors. Best part, this machine will never be obsolete, since it already is :) there’s far more powerful hardware out there and machines that are even smaller and better designed. But they don’t cost $399 and that’s part of the magic.

Michael beat me to the XP installation with nlite (but only because my optical drive is shot Michael!) and has over 2 GB of remaining storage even after the XP installation. With an 8 GB SD card, 3G and wireless connectivity to the cloud, I think Michael might get some work done with the Eee!
