Chandamama Online Relaunched

The portal for Chandamama, a magazine for kids has been relaunched, reports techtree. I just checked, and the site has content on Panchtantra, Akbar-Birbal, Vikram-Vetal etc. The site has simple, limited navigation options, with new stories, serials, general knowledge information. Another segment allows readers to access stories from specific characters. All in all, a fairly basic site. I’d like to see Chandamama develop fan clubs around some of these characters…was also pleasantly surprised to see a banner ad for the confectionary brand ‘Parle Poppins’ on the site…didn’t know they advertised online. But this just typifies the opportunity that exists for Chandamama – as more and more kids from India make their way online, they can create a controlled environment for parents to feel comfortable with, and provide a targeted space for ads.

As per a statement issued on December 7th issued by Geodesic India, which owns Chandamama, the company has paid Rs. 1,18,75,000 crorestowards the acquisition of Chandamama India. The rest was a stock deal, with a total cost of acquisition of Rs. 10.2 Crores. Readers will remember that content from another traditional media publication – Amar Chitra Katha, has been acquired for digitization.
