Railways To Set Up Voice Portal For Ticketing

In Indian Railways is setting up a voice portal (or Interactive Voice Response System/IVRS) to enable prospective travelers to book tickets via the mobile, reports the Indian Express. The Railways is apparently in talks with mobile operators. For the amount will be deducted from prepaid subscribers’ remaining balance or added to postpaid subscribers’ monthly bill. I wonder if mobile operators will be willing to take the financial risk in case of postpaid subscribers. The service will be charged at Rs 1.20 per minute per ticket for AC classes and 30-50 paise for unreserved tickets. Given the number of trains, booking a ticket could be a confusing exercise…should one expect 5-10 minutes for booking each ticket? The operators sure won’t mind.
