Shareholders obviously have their doubts. After getting pounded on Friday, shares of both Macrovision (NSDQ: MVSN) and Gemstar are off sharply again today, as Wall Street analysts chimed in to express their worry. Tech Trader Daily summarizes a spate of reports all questioning the deal’s logic. For Macrovision shareholders, the acquisition looks like an all-in bet on a confusing, high-concept strategy with marginal near-term benefit, such as cost savings. Gemstar shareholders, meanwhile, obviously were looking for a higher bid. If a $2.8 billion offer was the best that Gemstar management could muster up after a summer’s worth of shopping the company around, and even that offer looks in danger, then shareholders may have to significantly dial down their expectations.
