This might be an Asia-only market device since I’ve heard nothing about the Intrinsyc Soleus phone platform until now. However, I have heard of Quanta, who just licensed Soleus to develop and deliver a new WindowsCE device in the second half of 2008. The “high end” Quanta device will have HSDPA support but there’s no indication it will have phone capabilities. The Soleus platform does support quad-band GSM voice, so anything is possible at this point. From the looks of the platform specifications (PDF), Soleus looks like the basic functionality of a phone that any manufacturer can license and then use to build a handset. Of course, it could also be used for a low-end handheld computer but I suspect that would be relatively limited based on the ARM platform it requires. Now I’m wondering: since Quanta manufactures devices for major brands around the world: who is this device being built for?
