Nokia (NYSE: NOK) has signed up another carrier to its Ovi service — Telecom Italia. The deal will see Nokia customize its handsets (starting with the N95 8GB and N81) to provide easy access to TIM services, as well as access to all of Nokia’s services through the Multimedia Menu. The collaboration also includes areas such as technology and billing. There’s no details on the business side of the deal but the release states: “Nokia and TIM have also agreed on a sustainable business model for both parties in a mutually beneficial approach.”
When Nokia launched Ovi there was some doubt it could get carriers to agree to let the service on its networks, but this is Nokia’s second carrier sign-up after Vodafone — it’s not clear whether the deal with TIM is for all its subsidiaries, but it seems likely.
