Now this is a use of GPS technology I could really get behind… the city of Stamford is looking at fitting buses with GPS and installing devices at bus stops which will tell commuters where their bus is and when it should arrive — so you can tell if it wouldn’t be quicker to just walk. If the information is made freely available — like traffic cameras — it wouldn’t be too hard to get it on your mobile phone, which to my mind would be one of the more useful services available on mobiles. Officials are also looking at giving priority green signals to buses that are running late, reports the Stamford Advocate.
