BBC has reached an agreement with the indie TV production body Pact, on the rights framework for new media…this follows an online rights exploitation deal reached in June last year.
Not sure how the new deal is different, but the Guardian story says that this deal forms the basis upon which the BBC commissions stand-alone new media content in the future as part of its multi-platform strategy. This deal is similar to that of the TV terms of trade, which allowed content creators to retain more rights to their shows. This means more rights: Andrew Chitty, chairman of Pact’s Interactive Media Policy Group, said: “It’s a real step forward in that for the first time it recognises that interactive producers can own the rights to the content and services they create putting them on a par with television producers.
