WWD Coffee Break – Firefox, Shopping & Comics

Testing Foxes – As we mentioned yesterday, Firefox 3 Beta 1 is out. If you want to test without messing up your Firefox 2 install, create a separate profile. Or install the Nightly Tester Tools to re-enable any addons that get disabled if you upgrade. To live dangerously, go to about:config and set extensions.checkCompatibility to false – then you can install (at your own risk) whatever addons you like.

A Timely Search Engine – Retrevo is designed to help you ferret out information on consumer electronics – whether that means evaluating things before you purchase them, or digging out a particular page in a PDF copy of a manual that you lost long ago. Right now they’ve got a page up summarizing the best of the Black Friday deals as well.

And if You’re Still Stumped – Recommendr lets you post shopping-related questions (“Looking for good red and white wine for Thanksgiving dinner. Less than $50 a bottle.”) and sit back to wait for community answers. Or if you’re in a know-it-all mood you can log in and recommend things to other folks.

Play Before the C&D Arrives – If you think you can do better office comics than some famous cartoonist, but you have no art talent, try Diybert. They let you create your own comic strips online, then share them for rating and comments. Plus, you can upload a picture of your own pointy-headed boss to use as one of the lead characters.

Take Your Web Databases Mobile – Zoho Creator (which we looked at a while back) now comes in a special mobile flavor, so you can use it from mobile phones and similar devices. If you hit the main site from your mobile you’ll automatically get switched over.
