LiveMint Launches Market Info, Videos

LiveMint, the website for HT Media’s business paper Mint, has launched MarketInfo, a business information segment that provides Company Information, details on performance of Mutual Funds, Stock Markets, live domestic and international market information, results, corporate announcements…the works. The segment has easily navigable segment-wise charts, charting and a Java appelet that allows you to draw trendlines, scompare index/sector/stock performances, add indicators like Moving Average, Standard Deviation, Rate of Change, Private Volume trend, and then save your chart as a Gif file. I had some issues with the Java appelet – FireFox hung and there occasions when the applet didn’t load properly. There is related content supporting stock quotes and indices. May be a problem with my connection as well – sometimes the site loads, sometimes it doesn’t. The site isn’t as comprehensive as Web18’s IndiaEarnings.com (which also has conference calls and videos), but the interface is far more user-friendly, the navigation simpler and no ads (for now); I just hope don’t fill it up with soshkeles and popups like Moneycontrol has done.

LiveMint has also added videos, which are strangely placed right at the bottom of the front page. They appear to be videos related to stories covered in the newspaper. I wonder if Mint intends to promote videos as Web Exclusives in the newspaper…Most videos currently up are less than a minute, though this (interesting) one on economic policy was around 3 minutes long. Videos have also been included in stories (sample), though the page looks ungainly with multiple embeds of a chopped up video.
