PC World compares mobile browsers

XiinoChristopher Null puts five mobile web browsers to the task in this month’s PC World print copy and while there aren’t many surprises, it’s a good overview. Safari, the S60 browser (does it have a name?), Blazer, BlackBerry Internet Browser get the run-through as does Pocket Internet Explorer, which brings up the rear. There’s also a list of third-party browsers, all of which I’d heard of prior except for Mobirus Xiino, which is a $30 application for Palm OS devices. One of the takeaways I got from the article wasn’t something that Christopher directly covered, but a thought I had after thinking more about the mobile browser market. Nearly every browser in the field gets a regular update every now and again; maybe not new full versions, but at least incremental upgrades. I say nearly because for all of the issues that PIE has (and it does have issues), why don’t we see any real attempts to make it better? Deepfish is talked about every now and again, but why not some minor updates to fix some of the usability issues? Maybe putting that browser on the ROM wasn’t such a hot idea?
