Broadband Content Bits: IAC-HuffPo's 236.com; MSFT-ESPN; CBS Mobile Animation

IAC-HuffPo: Expected last March, 23/6, the comedy news site from IAC (NSDQ: IACI) and the Huffington Post, is finally live. Contributors include writers for “The Daily Show With Jon Stewart” and HuffPo bloggers. WSJ has more. The delayed timing may help: the site launches just as broadcast and cable comedy talk shows go to reruns due to the WGA strike.

Quarterlife: Just got a heads up that Quarterlife, the tv pilot-turned-internet series from Marshall Herskovitz and Edward Zwick, starts its run on MySpace TV Sunday with Toyota as sponsor. The 36 episodes each run 8 minutes. The show also has its own MySpace page, something the social net was doing long before this week’s Facebook announcement.

MSFT-ESPN: Microsoft (NSDQ: MSFT) will serve up ESPN (NYSE: DIS) programming on Xbox Live but, no live programming … the on-demand deal for Xbox Live Marketplace includes full-length NCAA basketball and football games and a batch of other programs (Summer X Games 13, World Series of Poker, The Contender, two seasons of Madden Nation, etc.) No official details on terms but it’s a rev share. Xbox Live uses Microsoft Points as currency; for instance, an HD TV episode runs 240 points about $3) and includes a standard download while standard downloads run 160 points (about $2). The programming is high-and-standard def. The Disney sports net was Microsoft’s MSN sports anchor before going independent. No Xbox Live content yet from current MSN anchor Fox Sports.

CBS (NYSE: CBS) Mobile: It has announced plans for its first original animated program — Danny Bonaduce: Life Coach — which will premiere on the mobile video services of major U.S. wireless carriers on Nov. 12, with additional episodes released every two weeks. Voiced by Danny Bonaduce, the eight animated episodes, each three to five minutes in length, will also stream on CBS.com and through online partners across the CBS Audience Network.
