Virgin Media Net Loss Narrows, Mobile Revenue Up

UK-based Virgin Media (NSDQ: VMED) has reported its Q307 earnings, posting a net loss of 61 million pounds (US$128.5 million), narrower than loss of 96.1 million pounds in the previous year. The company sawa swing to an operating income of 46.7 million pounds (US$98.25 million), compared to a loss of 9.6 million pounds (US$20.20 million) for the same period in 2006. This is despite a fall in revenue from 1,024.9 million pounds in Q306 (US$2,156.8 million) to 1,006.2 million pounds (US$2,117.3 million) this year. A strong gain in mobile from 140.4 million pounds (US$295.4 million) in Q306 to 158.7 million pounds (US$334 million) in Q307 was not enough to offset a 37.4 million pound (US$78.7 million) decline in cable revenue for the same period.
