Opera Strikes Again

You have to admire Opera. They consistently run a distant fourth in browser market share, yet they consistently release new versions with interesting features. Case in point: the new Opera Link feature of the now-in-beta Opera 9.5. This feature allows you – with the support of a free Opera account – to synchronize bookmarks and other customizations between multiple copies of Opera running on different devices.

Yes, there are solutions out there to do this with other browsers, ranging from Google Bookmarks to Foxmarks to BookmarkSync. The nice thing about Opera Link is that it’s integrated into the UI, and it works from both the desktop and mobile phone versions of Opera – so your bookmarks travel with you, a distinct bonus for web workers. If you’ve moved to the iPhone you already have bookmark sync with Safari, but those of you on other phones will find Opera Link a potentially less expensive way to make those saved-up bookmarks portable.
