Updated below: A little more than a year since its debut, NBC Universal (NYSE: GE) appears likely to close its online comedy entry DotComedy, Mediaweek reports citing unidentified sources. The site went live last November with a mix of NBC’s late-night programming, snippets of classic comedy from the network’s library, viral video and original content. Some of the original content may find its place on other sites within NBCU’s digital outlets.
DotComedy just never seemed to catch on. Traffic was so low during the past three months, DotComedy twice fell off Nielsen’s measurement radar, according to MediaWeek. The site achieved its highest amount of uniques in August with 246,000 uniques.
Update: A source familiar with the situation that DotComedy “probably” will disappear as a destination site, but said the content will still be produced and distributed to NBC.com and other NBCU entertainment sites.
