United Online (NSDQ: UNTD), the parent company of Classmates.com, as well as ISPs Juno and NetZero, saw Q3 revenues fall 2 percent to $126.8 million from $129.6 million. Net income for the quarter was up a slight 4 percent to $14 million from $13.4 million. The modest year-over-year moves mask the sharp, but opposite changes in its two business lines:
— Content & Media: Revenues rose 37 percent to $51.4 million in the segment, which includes its Classmates.com social net (soon to be spun off) and online marketing firm Mypoints.com. Advertising accounted for $22.0 million of the segment’s revenues. Paying users increased 255,000 to 3.1 million during the quarter.
— Communications: Not surprisingly, it’s a much different story on the ISP side. Revenues slipped 18 percent to $75.4 million.
