Coffee break – the Vye S37 is no grande

Coffee_manI’ve got lunch scheduled with a former colleague today at noon so I hit the road early to camp out for some java and tunes at a Starbucks nearby the meeting place. I hadn’t used my HSDPA modem with the Vye yet and since I cancelled my T-Mobile voice and Hotspot account, I figured now was a good time. Of course the HSDPA bandwidth is rockin’ faster than the music here, but having the modem in the Vye’s USB port really gives a great appreciation for the small size of this device. I didn’t bring my good camera today, so these are just shots with the iPhone; it’s also pretty dim in here due to much needed rain, but you still get a good perspective. I’m still getting used to the small keyboard, but giving it a fair shake as promised. I see a noticable improvement in my typing speeds just a day after my first impressions, which is good. I don’t like where the right Shift button is; I keep hitting Page Up instead, but I’ll adjust. Oh, I should also note that I see very little difference in the power drain when using the 3G modem. Notebook Hardware Control shows it to be averaging around 12 W, which is less than 10% from the 11 W I was seeing with WiFi.
