Earnings: Akamai Q3 Revenue Up 45 Percent, Net Income Up 73 Percent

Akamai (NSDQ: AKAM) reported Q3 revenue of $161.2 million, up 45 percent from last year’s $111.5 million. Net income grew to $24.3 million, or $.13 per share, up 73 percent from $14 million, or $.08, last year. The company says it now has 2,616 customers under long-term contracts, up 22 percent year over year.

Updated: from the conference call transcript: Akamai is developing capabilities for HD video delivery, online, and to showcase these capabilities, “we plan to launch HDweb later this month, an initiative that brings together a number of powerful online brands…Akamai will work with participating customers to power a collection of HD entertainment, offering Internet users a glimpse into what the Internet of tomorrow will look like.” Sounds like a destination site with HD video from major media companies.
