Wyclef Jean on your phone, and mobile Weather Channel, and 3G rich advertising insertions, oh my! The Cellular Telecommunications and Internet Association (CTIA) kicks off its annual wireless IT and entertainment conference here in San Francisco today. Here’s a roundup of mobile video announcements from day one:
KickApps has enabled mobile media uploading for companies using its white-label social media platform. The company demonstrated the functionality as part of its new deal with VeriSign (VRSN) to provide its social media platform within VeriSign’s Social Media Solution.
MyWaves is hooking up with Nokia (NOK) and Columbia Records in separate deals. MyWaves will have a channel in the Nokia Video Center to deliver content to compatible Nokia “Nseries” devices. MyWaves will also make music videos by the likes of Wyclef Jean, Bow Wow, and Nas available to mobile devices.
Vantrix will power mobile video for The Weather Channel, producing 5,000 videos a day (!) covering 100 different cities.
Mobile ad company Media Layers launched its SMART platform, which allows real-time insertion of rich ads into mobile content. Israeli 3G operator Pelephone announced it would use Media Layers’ SMART system for vido-in-video ads. And Media Layers also announced a partnership with mobile ad firm 4th Screen Advertising to deliver mobile video ads.
Thin Media and Amobee demonstrated the ability to integrate banner or overlay ads onto mobile media for mobile operators.
QuickPlay Media unveiled version 4.0 of its OpenVideo platform, which will feature new content management systems, more reporting and analytics and specialty modules for advertising. Virgin Mobile selected QuickPlay to power its audio and video streaming.
Action Engine launched its Action Engine MediaPro, a multimedia service that allows media companies and wireless operators to stream video and audio content to wireless devices.
MobiTV passes the three million subscriber mark, and signed a multi-year deal to continues its audio and video services for Sprint.
