Now you needn’t have done what I did to figure out that lower costing products can generate high demand. That’s the theory behind the Asus Eee PC and I knew that even without my four years of undergraduate Economics study with an extra 18 months of graduate level tacked on for good measure. [Yes, I know: boring stuff but I was young and impressionable back then. Now I’m old and impressionable.]
First impressions of the Asus Eee PC must have been good in Taiwan as one on-line vendor sold out in ten minutes flat. We’re still waiting here for the verdict, but I’m watching Newegg and BestBuy daily. While we wait, Asustek won’t be sitting still. According to DigiTimes, they plan to follow a similar strategy by offering "low-cost smart handheld devices". Their MyPal line wasn’t all that bad to begin with back in the day, and I wonder if they’ll be following in the footsteps of Palm with the low-cost, but reasonably featured Centro? Will there be another decent $99 or less entry in the handheld space?
