Sprint (NYSE: S) has announced a few mobile game efforts at E for All, launching a couple of “arcades”. Sprint Arcade is a subscription service which offers six games from EA Mobile — Sudoku, Mini Golf, Mahjong, Hearts, Air Hockey and Blue Blocks — for a monthly fee of $9.99 (plus data) reports Mobiledia. At the moment I’d have to say I don’t think it’s worth it, but Sprint and EA say there are more games to come, which will increase the value. It could also keep customers by putting up community features such as high score lists. Sprint has also announced the Sprint Digital Lounge Arcade, which lets people try out mobile games on their PC before buying them on their phone. While this doesn’t help with discovery, it does help give people the confidence that the game they’re buying is one they would actually like to play. That’s run by mpowerplayer. Sprint does have a mobile version, Sprint Play Free Games!, which offers a limited number of demo downloads each month. A semi-related announcement is from Namco, which is lauching Popeye Arcade exclusively on Sprint, for some reason.
