OK, I officially named myself a butthead due to not deciding to take the HP 2710p Tablet PC on the Vegas trip until the last minute. It made sense to see how the HP fares on a trip like this one and since I have never traveled with it bringing it along is giving me first-hand experience how well it travels. So far I am happy to say it’s faring quite well. The 2710p coupled with the Verizon v740 ExpressCard modem on their BroadbandAccess network has worked very well. I first got to pull the 2710p out of my gear bag in the airport terminal and process email and RSS feeds while waiting for our plan to begin boarding and doing that in slate mode was a lot of fun. I got a lot done in that ten minutes so as our flight left Houston I was caught up with my work. Woot!
I haven’t used the HP very much since our arrival in Vegas, other than some light work in the hotel room and a couple of Starbucks. Most of the effort in the hotel room was trying to get the hotel internet access working but since it’s hopelessly dead we are relying on the Verizon EVDO service shared over an ad-hoc wireless network that allows both of us to work simultaneously. We aren’t doing very much of that cause we’re in Vegas baby, but it’s nice that everything works so well in a mobile environment so that we can get a lot done without doing a lot of work. This afternoon I had a free half hour and I sat in the hotel Starbucks and went through over 1,200 RSS feeds. It’s nice to be mobile and I am happy to say the HP 2710p is working as well as I knew it would. Later, slot machines are calling.
UPDATE: I forgot to mention something, we’re getting ready to go for some Asian Fusion cuisine followed by attending the Carrot Top show. Woot!
