China’s mobile online game market is predicted to grow 150 percent annually between now and 2010, according to VC investment consulting company ChinaVenture. However, that’s from a pretty low base: “The mobile online game, which is based on 2.5-generation platforms like JAVA and BREW, would hit 110 million yuan (US$14.7 million) in sales revenue this year, up more than 343 times over 2006, and the figure is likely to reach 380 million yuan in 2008″ reports ChinaDaily. That comes from 16 million people playing this year, which is predicted to reach 154 million by 2010. That’s a pretty significant portion of the population to be playing online games (which I assume exclude downloads that are only played on the handset), but I have no idea what sort of games are being talked about. If it includes casual online games it could be reasonable.
