More changes at IDG’s InfoWorld following the tech mag’s switch to online-only publication, Folio reports, including the departure of CEO Bob Ostrow, VP-Online Sales Kate Hobbie (“let go” last month) and, just yesterday, the resignation of top editor Steve Fox marking the fifth recent departure in recent months.
— Ostrow was replaced by Matt Sweeney, CEO of ComputerWorld — now responsible for both brands. IDG Communications CEO Bob Carrigan told Folio the two will remain distinct brands.
— IDG vet Eric Knorr replaces Fox, who is joining info portal start-up Affinity Labs.
Carrigan disputes a source’s claim to Folio that the transition from controlled circulation has been rocky and that getting information on readfers has been “impossible.” Carrigan: “Respectfully, this is totally off base. Our page views, visitors, time spent on site, and revenue are up since we closed print last April. In fact, we set an all-time record for visits to the site in August with over 1.6 million uniques.” (That’s up from 1.2 million uniques before the print edition’s demise.) Carrigan also talked up online-only/event models.
Bob Carrigan is speaking at our Future of Business Media conference on Oct 30th at the Waldorf in NYC. You can be sure the shift to online-only and the ripple effects will get plenty of attention.
