Deutsche Telekom (NYSE: DT) still wants to buy the rights for online live-broadcasting matches of German soccer league DFL, reports AFX. Earlier this week DFL awarded German media business man Leo Kirch’s agency Sirius (NSDQ: SIRI) rights to market Bundesliga games in 2009-2015 in the German-speaking region. DT will now offer a second tender, it said. DT two years ago bought the license to transmit for three years Bundesliga games online for 45 million Euro per season to attract customers to its broadband offers.
DW-World: Kirch-led company Sirius will sell the domestic broadcast rights to the Bundesliga for six seasons. The DFL said it set to earn some 3 billion euros ($4.2 billion) from 2009 to 2015 — or 500 million euros a year — from the new deal. The league currently makes 440 million euros per season from a deal allowing the private, pay TV station Premiere to broadcast matches live and state-run television to show highlights. That deal expires in 2009.
